The Communications Specialist works in the Corporate Communications department to accomplish key tasks for the employee communications and provide support to the community relations team as needed. The role is responsible for successfully developing content and managing channels to inform and engage employees, in support of the company's strategic plan.
Develop and produce communications content including articles, emails, photos, graphics, flyers, presentations, social media posts, and video for employees. Manage editorial calendars and production of employee channels including weekly email newsletter, intranet stories and home page features, and employee social media channels. Participate in developing and implementing communication plans for initiatives or events as assigned.
Focus on employee communications for Community Relations programs like Symetra Week of Service, I CARE annual giving campaign and Symetra Heroes in the Classroom including developing the communications plan and producing articles and supporting content. Provide administrative support for Community Relations programs and projects as needed.
Bachelor's degree required. Communications, Marketing/PR or Journalism degrees preferred.
Minimum Years of Related Work Experience Required:
2-4 years of relevant corporate communications work in a corporate setting, preferably within a mid-size to large company.
Skills and Abilities Required:
Project management, editorial calendar management, social media content development, social media community management, communications planning, strong interviewing, writing, editing and proofreading skills, comfortable using Microsoft Office and SharePoint programs, event coordination and support, ability to take and adapt to feedback, ability think critically and work independently, comfortable with senior leaders, comfortable establishing and developing productive relationships with key internal stakeholders.
