LOCATION: Olympia, Washington
SALARY: Minimum of $2,782 month
CLOSING DATE: December 13, 2019

**This position does not qualify for health benefits or retirement.

The House of Representatives comprises half of the Washington State Legislature and is made up of 98 members elected to serve two-year terms, representing 49 legislative districts. The Legislature meets every year to consider and pass legislation involving public policy, state revenue, and state spending. In addition to elected members, the House also employs approximately 230 full-time year-round staff, and 100 temporary session staff and interns.
The Washington State House of Representatives is seeking dependable candidates for temporary cook and server positions for the House Cafeteria.



  • Works with others to prepare, cook, and serve food.
  • Transports food, supplies, and equipment to and from kitchens, dining areas, storerooms and refrigerators.
  • Serves food individually or from steam tables and carts; loads and clears steam tables and carts.
  • Sets, clears, and washes dining room tables; cleans and maintains steam tables and salad bars; cleans and polishes silverware; mops, and cleans kitchen, dining, refrigeration, or garbage areas; cleans and maintains coffee and soda machines.
  • Sorts and bundles soiled kitchen laundry; counts and stores clean laundry.
  • Operates standard kitchen appliances and equipment such as coffee maker, toaster, panini press, waffle maker, rice cooker, crockpots, meat slicers, and other food service equipment.
  • Operates a point-of-sale system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Knowledge of kitchen and dining room operations; good personal hygiene, sanitation, and housekeeping practices; operation of standard kitchen appliances and equipment.
  • Ability to work as a team member and take direction, as well as the ability to adapt to change as required.
  • Ability to learn routines involved in preparing and serving food and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Possession of a food workers card from the Thurston County Department of Health or other county public health department before the first day of work.

  • Full-time, temporary, with some evening and weekend work from early January through mid-March 2020.
