Overall Job Objective

Position Summary

The Hourly Science Lab Tech positions are part-time, hourly positions at Seattle Central College. An Hourly Science Lab Tech may assist in the areas of Chemistry, Biology, Plant and Earth Environmental Sciences, Physics, and Engineering labs. 

Hours: Maximum 16 hours per week. Shift hours and hours worked per week may depend on the area in which you are hired. 

The position is open until filled and applications are considered on a quarterly basis.

Essential Functions

  • Learn and follow lab specific procedures and policies
  • Maintain regular contact with supervisor
  • Keep lab and prep room clean and organized
  • Dusting, sweeping, mopping, and washing as necessary
  • Assist in setting up and putting away laboratory activities and demos
  • Learn how to maintain and repair equipment
  • Complete a quarterly inventory
  • Submit Time and Leave Reporting (timecards) on time
  • Be polite, and use professional communication
  • Treat all students, staff, and faculty with respect and kindness
  • Additional functions as assigned by specific areas

Required Education, Experience & Abilities

  • Have taken or currently taking science class(es) in subject of interest (ie Chemistry, Biology, Physics/Engineering, Plant and Earth & Environmental Sciences)
  • Subject area knowledge
  • Ability to communicate effectively
