JOB TITLE: CENTRAL OFFICE SPECIALIST

FLSA STATUS: Exempt Plus additional days as provided by the HEA bargaining agreement
SUMMARY: The Central Office Specialist is an accomplished teacher who serves in a leadership role at the system level. A specialist provides expert consultation through facilitating collaboration, instructional coaching, and serving as a system leader across a variety of roles. The Central Office Specialist sees her or his ongoing learning and development as essential to achieve equitable results for all students.
CONTEXT AND MISSION: Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, and White Center in Washington State. In 2013, parents, students, community members, and staff at all levels of the district came together to develop a strategic plan that reflects our goals and dreams for our students. The plan was updated in 2018 to guide our work through 2023. The plan’s promise is that every student in Highline Public Schools is known by name, strength, and need, and graduates prepared for the future they choose. The strategic plan is centered on Our Promise. It includes five big goals for Highline students, supported by Our Foundation. * Equity. We will disrupt institutional biases and end inequitable practices so all students have an equal chance at success. * Instruction. We will reduce achievement and opportunity gaps by using culturally responsive, inclusive, standards-based instruction. * Relationships. We will know our students by name, strength and need and have open, two-way communication with students, families and community partners. * Support. We will increase student success by supporting their social-emotional and academic needs.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Foster teacher growth through individualized support, including coaching * Build teacher understanding of content-specific instructional practices * Develop leadership capacity of others through gradual transfer of responsibility * Develop and maintain content-area frameworks * Lead work to deeply understand content area standards * Develop culturally responsive instructional practices and culturally responsive curriculum * Integrate language learning and differentiation in all subject areas * Provide support for literacy across content areas * Facilitate professional learning on the use of student data * Lead the use of formative and summative assessment data to support data-driven planning * Create and facilitate system-wide and school-based professional learning * Collaborate with specialists at the school and district level * Convene and facilitate committees and teams
JOB DESCRIPTION: CENTRAL OFFICE SPECIALIST * Connect and collaborate with families, community stakeholders, and other educational agencies * Support the design and implementation of instructional programs at the school and system level * Provide guidance and support for schools in implementing instructional programs * Maintain and communicate information about current program * Model leadership with a focus on racial equity * Review current literature and engage in research in specific content area * Provide direct student support Other Functions * Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and supporting student learning objectives.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: WA State Teaching Certificate with endorsements appropriate to subject area and grade level of assignment Three years successful teaching experience One year successful experience as a specialist or similar role
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:: Endorsement in content-specific area
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Criminal background clearance First Aid and CPR certificate within 90 days of hire Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of insurance
