The City of Seattle have incredible career opportunities for skilled HVAC technicians who have a strong aptitude for troubleshooting and love working with a wide-variety of equipment.  In this role you will operate, maintain, and install heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning equipment in facilities under management. The Facility Operations Division operates and maintains approximately 3 million square feet of City-owned facilities and provides support, maintenance and repair of building systems for the City departments and other users that occupy space in buildings under its jurisdiction.

 Job Responsibilities:
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment listed but not limited to heat pumps, coolers, refrigeration units, air handlers, VAV systems, exhaust systems, condensers, evaporators, coils, strip heaters, boilers, thermostats, VFDs, and hot water systems.
  • Collaborate in troubleshooting and repairing DDC and pneumatic controls
  • Maintain documentation of service performed and materials used in the shop
  • Operate computerized controls
  • Respond to facilities related inquiries.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of work and jobsite spaces.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems or 2 years of technical school HVAC coursework.
(or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
  • Ability to work under excessive noise.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in all types of weather.
  • Ability to work at extreme heights and in hazardous and confined areas.
  • Ability to work in environments exposed to chemicals, dust, pollution, noise, and asbestos.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, extended hours, and holidays as necessary
  • Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
 
License, Certification, and Other Requirements:
Within 90 days of appointment:
  • City of Seattle Grade III Steam Engineer's license
  • City of Seattle Refrigeration Mechanic's License class A
  • EPA CFC Universal Certificate.
  •  Washington State Electrician Specialty License.
  • Current Washington State driver's license or be able to obtain one by the start date.

  • Knowledgeable in the proper use of all tools, equipment, materials, and codes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills are essential.
  • Ability to work in an environment with multiple projects and priorities.
  • Initiative and independent judgment within defined procedures and practices is required.
  • Positive customer service orientation with both internal and external clients.
